SHINE YOUR LIGHT (Single) Lyric Video, by Bernadette Yao
The joy and hope interwoven throughout my happy pop vibe single, Shine Your Light, may help shift your mood from fear to love. The intention for this song is to remind us of our light through singing and dancing during challenging times of racial, political division and the pandemic. I wrote Shine Your Light 2 months after the tragic Atlanta spa shootings in 2021 which took the lives of 6 Asian women, this song is an antidote to racial trauma by reminding all to love yourself. Shine Your Light emerged as a song of resistance to racism, ableism, and classism - to remind all of us to be in our joy and embrace our unique and brilliant essence. This song is for everyone! This song is for everyone, and it will be part of an album which drops later in 2022.
As a former cast member of PBS TV show, ZOOM, I and my fellow cast member, Leon Mobley, decided to collaborate on this song. Words, music and arranging composed by me, Bernadette Yao. The recording was produced by Leon Mobley, percussionist (Ben Harper, Nas, Damian Marley). Playing percussion on the song, Leon added back up singers & musicians including Chris Joyner (keyboard), Yukiko Matsuyama (koto), Rebecca Schlappich Charles (violin), and Scotty Mearig (bass guitar). With my vocal arrangements, we added back up singers: my friend and singer/songwriter, Lisa Doscher, my daughter, Christine McEachern, Leon Mobley, Keith Batlin, and Samir Moussa. Cover art by my sister-in-law, Danielle Mailer
